Companionship — a familiar face,
every single visit

Not a roster of strangers. Not whoever was available. A companion who knows your parent's name, their garden, their stories — and comes back next week. The Good Companion delivers companionship the way it should work: consistent, warm and always the same person.

Named. Consistent.

The research is clear

Loneliness is as harmful as smoking 15 cigarettes a day

That finding, from research published in the journal PLOS Medicine, is not an outlier. Social isolation in older adults is consistently linked to faster cognitive decline, higher rates of depression, increased fall risk, and shorter life expectancy.

For many Queensland seniors — particularly those living alone in Bundaberg, Hervey Bay, Townsville or the outer suburbs of Brisbane — regular social contact has simply reduced. Adult children live interstate or overseas. Driving has stopped. The neighbours have moved on.

A companionship visit is not a luxury or a nice-to-have. For many clients, it is the most important hour of their week.

1 in 3 Australians aged 65+ report feeling lonely regularly
26% Reduction in dementia risk with regular social engagement
45% Greater survival likelihood with strong social connection
Week 1 Families notice a difference within the first visit

What a companion actually does

More than a friendly face —
a genuine presence in your parent's week

Companionship with The Good Companion is not passive. Your companion shows up prepared, engaged and consistent. Here is what that looks like in practice.

Conversation & connection

A cup of tea, a long conversation, a game of cards, a discussion about what's in the newspaper. Your companion brings genuine interest and consistent presence — not a script. Over weeks, they become someone your parent looks forward to seeing.

🌎

Outings & adventures

A coffee at the esplanade café in Caloundra. A walk through the Botanic Gardens in Bundaberg. A visit to a friend or family member. Your companion provides safe, accompanied outings tailored to your parent's pace, interests and mobility.

🆕

Hobbies & interests

Puzzles. Gardening. Knitting. Reminiscing with old photo albums. Watching the footy together. A good companion adapts to what brings joy — they're not there to manage a task list, they're there to share what your parent loves.

🛒

Errands & everyday help

Accompanying your parent to the shops, to appointments, or simply helping with light tasks around the home. Companionship often overlaps naturally with practical assistance — and that's entirely fine.

👁

A set of caring eyes

Regular visits create an observant, trusted presence. Your companion notices changes — in mood, in mobility, in memory — and communicates these to your coordinator. For families living far from Townsville or Hervey Bay, this is peace of mind.

💤

Respite for family

When a companion is present, family carers get a genuine break. You stop being the only person your parent relies on. For adult children across the Sunshine Coast and Brisbane managing care from a distance, this relief is significant.

Wherever home is

Companionship at home, in a retirement village, or in a care facility

The Good Companion visits clients wherever they are living. We adapt our service to the setting — not the other way around.

🏠

At Home

The most common setting. Your companion visits at a regular, consistent time that fits your parent's routine. The familiarity of home — their own chair, their own kitchen, their own garden — makes every visit more relaxed and natural.

🏙

Retirement Village

Many village residents have social options available but still benefit from a dedicated one-to-one companion. We work cooperatively with village staff and management across the Sunshine Coast, Moreton Bay and Brisbane. We supplement — never replace — village community life.

🏥

Aged Care Facility

Residents in aged care facilities often see a great many different staff members in a week. A consistent private companion — someone who has known them for months, who comes for them specifically — is something very different. We work within facility guidelines and coordinate with care staff.

The Good Companion Queensland companion team

Employed. Named. The same person next week.

Every companion on our Queensland team is directly employed by The Good Companion. They are vetted, trained and insured. They are not matched to you through a platform or supplied by an agency for the day.

Behind each companion sits a senior service coordinator who monitors the quality of every visit and is contactable when something changes. That combination — a consistent companion plus a responsive coordinator — is what transforms a companionship visit from a pleasant hour into a genuine relationship.

Your parent will know their companion's name. Their companion will know their stories.

Talk to us about getting started
Getting started

From first call to first visit — four simple steps

No referral required for private clients. HCP clients can start as soon as their funding is confirmed.

💬
1

Have a conversation

Call (07) 21407238 or message us. Tell us about your parent — their interests, their routine, where they live and what kind of company they'd enjoy most.

📋
2

We match your companion

Your coordinator matches your parent with a companion based on personality, shared interests and location. A love of gardening. A passion for cricket. Shared life experience. We take this seriously.

🤝
3

You meet first

Before visits begin, your parent meets their companion. No strangers at the door on visit one. If the match doesn't feel right, we find someone better. No pressure.

🌟
4

Visits begin — and relationships grow

The same companion, the same time each week. Over months, the visits deepen into something your parent genuinely looks forward to.

Real families, real words

What happens when the right companion walks through the door

The difference a consistent, warm companion makes is something families describe better than we can.

★★★★★
"Just got home from visiting Mum. She seems very happy with Sarah, who managed to win her over by taking an interest in her garden. She's been going for months now and Mum looks forward to every visit."

"We have been using TGC for over 12 months. The carers have become like friends to Mum and also to her extended family. The three girls have been absolutely amazing — I know because for the first time in a long time she is actually smiling."

"We wanted to provide Mum with the flexibility of regular social contact after losing her ability to drive. She very much enjoyed the first outing and looks forward to planning where she'll go each week. It's given her someone new to talk to."

"Mum is very happy and comfortable with all three. I know this because for the first time in a long time she is actually smiling. I attribute that all to Sarah, Ruth and Danielle and the companionship and care they provide."

Where we are

Local companions across Queensland

Our companion team lives and works in the communities they serve. A companion visiting a client in Murrumba Downs knows the local shops. A companion in Bundaberg knows the parks, the cafés and the pace of life there. This local familiarity is what makes visits feel natural rather than clinical.

We provide companionship services across our active Queensland service areas, including coastal communities, regional centres and metropolitan suburbs. If you're not sure whether we service your area, call us — we cover more of Queensland than this list suggests.

Why choose us over the alternatives?

Companionship done properly — here's what makes us different

In Queensland's home care market you can choose a platform that matches you with whoever is available, a large provider that rotates through staff, or The Good Companion — where your parent has one companion, consistently, for as long as they want them.

👤
One companion — not a roster Platform providers like Homage and some gig-based services match you with whoever is available. We match you with one person and keep them. The relationship compounds — visits get better over months, not worse.
📅
Consistent schedule — not on-demand booking Predictability matters enormously for seniors. The same companion, the same time each week, provides a rhythm and an anchor. It is also safer — a companion who sees your parent regularly notices when something has changed.
📊
A coordinator behind every companion Every companion is supported by a senior service coordinator who monitors visit quality and is contactable when something changes. This oversight layer — standard at The Good Companion — is absent in most platform models.
📈
Competitive rates — more hours from your HCP budget For clients using Support at Home or DVA funding, our rates mean your quarterly budget delivers more hours of companionship than providers with higher overhead structures. We'll show you the numbers on request.
Talk to us about switching

Already have a provider? Switching takes three steps.

1
Call or message us Tell us about your current situation — your funding level, what's working and what isn't. No forms before a conversation. No pressure.
2
We manage the transition Under the Support at Home program, there are no exit fees and your unspent funds transfer automatically. We handle the paperwork on your behalf.
3
Your companion begins — usually within days We match you with your companion, you meet them first, then visits begin. Most families make the switch within a week of their first call to us.
Your legal right: Since January 2023, providers cannot charge exit fees when you switch Support at Home providers. Your funds transfer automatically. You can change at any time.
Common questions

Everything families ask us about companionship

How is The Good Companion different from a gig-economy platform?+
Platform services like Homage, Mable or similar connect you with independent contractors. You may get a different person each time, have no guaranteed continuity, and deal with an intermediary if something goes wrong. At The Good Companion, every companion is directly employed by us — trained, insured and supported by a coordinator. You have one companion who returns consistently, and a coordinator who is accountable for their performance.
Will my parent have the same companion every visit?+
Yes. Consistency of companion is a core commitment at The Good Companion — not an aspiration. We match carefully from the outset and maintain that relationship. If your regular companion is unavailable for a scheduled visit, your coordinator will notify you in advance and explain who will attend. We don't send unfamiliar faces without warning.
Can companionship visits be funded through my Home Care Package?+
Yes. Social support and companionship is a standard inclusion under all Support at Home classifications — the program that replaced Home Care Packages in November 2025. If you were on a Home Care Package, you have been automatically transitioned. Your quarterly budget can include regular companionship visits. Our competitive rates mean you can access more hours of visits than many providers offer for the same classification level.
Can companionship start without a Home Care Package — privately?+
Yes. Private companionship visits are available immediately — no assessment, no referral, no waiting. This is ideal for families who want care to start while waiting for government funding approval, or who prefer to self-fund. Our private rates are highly competitive and will be clearly stated before any commitment is made.
My parent lives in a retirement village — can you still visit?+
Yes. We visit clients in retirement villages and independent living communities across Queensland — including on the Sunshine Coast, in Bundaberg and in Brisbane. We coordinate with village management and work within any access or scheduling requirements. Retirement village residents are among the clients who benefit most from a dedicated private companion, separate from the group activities the village provides.
What if my parent is in an aged care facility?+
We visit clients in aged care facilities. Residents in facilities often see many different staff members each week. A consistent private companion — someone who comes specifically for them, knows their history and isn't part of the facility roster — provides a very different and valued kind of connection. We coordinate with facility staff and work within their guidelines.
How do I know the companion is the right match?+
Your coordinator takes time to understand your parent's personality, interests and life experience before making a match. You meet the companion before visits begin. If the match doesn't feel right after a few visits, tell your coordinator and we will find someone more suitable. The relationship matters — we get it right.
Which Queensland areas do you service for companionship?+
We provide companionship services across the Sunshine Coast (Noosa to Caloundra), Moreton Bay and Redcliffe Peninsula, Brisbane North, Bundaberg, Hervey Bay, Gladstone, Townsville, and surrounding communities including Aspley, Chermside, Kallangur, Murrumba Downs, Kippa-Ring, Deception Bay, Mango Hill and Newport. If your suburb isn't listed, call us — we cover more of Queensland than this list.

A familiar face — every week

It starts with one call. Tell us about your parent — where they live, what they love, what they're missing. We'll find the right companion and arrange for them to meet before any visit begins. No pressure. No jargon. Just a conversation about what good looks like for your family.

Or email info@thegoodcompanion.com.au — we respond within the same business day.
