We understand

When nights become the hardest part of caring

Families searching for overnight care are rarely just browsing. If any of these feel familiar, you're in the right place.

💀

Fear of falls overnight

Every trip to the bathroom is a risk. A qualified carer — present and available — removes that fear completely.

🧠

Dementia & night-time confusion

Wandering, disorientation, distress at 2am. A consistent overnight carer who knows your parent keeps them calm and safe.

🏥

Hospital discharge approaching

The nights after discharge are the highest-risk period. We can have an overnight carer in place before your parent comes home.

💕

Family carer exhaustion

One night of genuine rest — knowing someone experienced is there — changes everything for families who have been carrying this alone.

💬
You don't have to manage the nights alone. Call us today. Same-day response, no pressure, no obligation. We'll explain what overnight care looks like in practice and whether we're the right fit.
Choose the right overnight support

Three types of overnight care — we'll help you choose

Every overnight situation is different. Our coordinators help you identify which level fits your parent's needs and your family's situation.

Most popular
😴

Sleepover Care

Your carer arrives in the evening, stays overnight and leaves in the morning. They sleep — but they're there and available if your parent needs them. If the carer is required to get up more than twice, the shift automatically escalates to an active overnight rate.

Ideal for:
  • Seniors mostly settled overnight but needing reassurance
  • Falls risk — someone to call on if needed
  • Family carer respite
  • Post-hospital peace of mind

💡

Active Overnight Care

Your carer is awake throughout the night, actively providing support as needed. For clients with frequent overnight needs — dementia, continence, repositioning or palliative care — this is the appropriate level of overnight support.

Ideal for:
  • Moderate to advanced dementia with night wandering
  • Frequent medication or continence needs
  • Complex mobility support through the night
  • Palliative and end-of-life care

🕐

24-Hour Care

Around-the-clock support combining overnight and daytime care. A small, consistent team of employed carers rotates through shifts — all known to your parent, all managed by the same coordinator. The most comprehensive alternative to residential care.

Ideal for:
  • High-level care needs day and night
  • Advanced dementia or complex medical needs
  • Palliative care at home
  • Post-hospital intensive recovery

Not sure which type is right? That's exactly what our first call is for. We'll listen and recommend honestly — no pressure.

Why families trust us overnight

Not an app. Not a marketplace.
An employed team with a coordinator behind every shift.

👤

Employed overnight carers

Every carer who comes to your home overnight is directly employed by The Good Companion — vetted, trained, insured and accountable. Not a contractor matched through a platform.

🤝

The same carer, every night

A stranger at 2am is distressing, not reassuring. We match your family with a specific carer and maintain that relationship. Your parent knows who will be there.

📊

A coordinator behind every shift

A named senior coordinator oversees every overnight service — knows your care plan, knows your carer, and is contactable directly when anything changes.

Available this week

For private clients, overnight care can often start within days. No waitlist. If your situation is urgent — call us directly rather than using a form.

Common questions

What families ask us about overnight care

What is the difference between sleepover and active overnight care?+
A sleepover carer sleeps in the home and responds if your parent calls during the night. An active overnight carer is awake throughout the night providing continuous support — appropriate for more complex needs such as dementia, frequent repositioning, continence or palliative care. The two are priced differently and your coordinator will help identify which is right for your situation.
What happens if the sleepover carer has to get up more than twice?+
If a sleepover carer is required to get up and provide active support more than twice during the night, the shift automatically escalates from a sleepover rate to an active overnight rate. This is standard practice — it ensures your carer is fairly compensated when a night becomes more demanding. Your coordinator will discuss this threshold before care begins. If your parent regularly triggers escalation, your coordinator may recommend active overnight care from the outset, which is often more cost-predictable.
Will my parent have the same overnight carer every night?+
Yes — consistency is a core commitment. We match your parent with a specific carer and maintain that relationship. A familiar presence matters especially overnight, particularly where dementia is involved. If your regular carer is unavailable, your coordinator will contact you in advance. We do not send unfamiliar carers without prior notice.
Can overnight care start this week?+
For private clients, often yes — subject to carer availability and a brief introduction meeting. For funded clients (HCP, NDIS, DVA), timing depends on how quickly the service agreement can be confirmed. If your situation is urgent, call us directly rather than submitting a form — we will prioritise your case. We can arrange private care as a bridge while funded arrangements are being set up.
Is overnight care funded under a Home Care Package?+
Yes. Overnight care is covered under all Support at Home classification levels. Higher levels (3 and 4) provide sufficient quarterly budget for regular overnight visits. Our competitive rates mean your budget delivers more hours than many providers. Call us if you are unsure whether your current classification covers regular overnight support.
Is overnight care available for NDIS participants?+
Yes. As a registered NDIS provider (ID: 4-KEL6HCR), The Good Companion delivers sleepover and active overnight support under the Assistance with Daily Life category. Sleepover is funded at a flat overnight rate; active overnight is funded hourly. We support agency, plan and self-managed participants. Support coordinators can contact us directly for same-day referral responses.
What is included in overnight care?+
Overnight care includes responding to your parent, bathroom assistance, medication reminders, repositioning, comfort and reassurance — and for active overnight, continuous supervision. It does not include clinical nursing procedures requiring a registered nurse. Your coordinator will clarify the scope before any shift begins, and our carers are experienced at recognising when escalation to a healthcare professional is needed.
Can I see what happened overnight through the care portal?+
Yes. Families who opt into the care portal can view progress notes completed by the carer during and after each shift — in real time from any device. Portal access is optional and activated with your consent. Many families managing care from a distance tell us it's one of the most valued features of our overnight service.
