2020 was not the year any of us expected
2020 was not the year any of us expected, after a horrific and unprecedented bushfire season, we faced the biggest crisis of our generation; COVID-19. The fallout of which will be felt for many years to come in almost every country around the world. Back home we saw thousands of businesses had to close, families forced to isolate from each other and unemployment skyrocketed.
In our sector we felt the impact first-hand, carers from all across the country began reaching out in the hopes of finding work after being let go from other agencies. We hired as many as we could but still felt like we could be doing more for our community. We also saw the need for carers sky-rocket when family, who would normally care for a loved one, we're unable to do so under the restrictive measures put in place for our safety.
In Dec we ran a contest to giveaway a mobility scooter to a family in need - what we found was that we were not the only people that wanted to help. In the end some of our partners got involved to gift our winner with a new website and marketing material for his struggling business. As gentle tears began rolling down his cheek we knew we had just been part of something special and we knew we needed to do it again.
The Good Companion provides home care solutions for the elderly, disabled children and adults. From one afternoon or a whole week, The Good Companion supports people who require in home respite, convalescing and home care support following hospital discharge.
After reviewing the needs of our community and looking at how best help we've initiated a new program for 2021 offering $10,000 free home care for people in need. This is perfect for families who are no longer able to care for a loved one due to the changes in their own life, for people in rehabilitation after an accident or surgery or for people in aged care needing extra help around the home.
While 2020 was not easy for us, we recognize our responsibility in helping lead our community back into a prosperous future that all Australian's hope for.
